Petkovic: Lazio deserved to beat Napoli

The two sides had to settle for a point apiece in a tight game, with the Biancocelesti boss convinced his side had done enough to emerge victorious
Vladimir Petkovic said Lazio deserved to win a "spectacular game" after they drew 1-1 with Napoli on Saturday.

Sergio Floccari gave Lazio the lead early on before a sensational strike from Hugo Campagnaro in the 87th minute stole a point for the Partenopei.

"We deserved to win a spectacular game, but Napoli deserve compliments too. It was a wonderful match," Petkovic told reporters after the game.

"Lazio can win against anyone and the table tells us it doesn’t just depend on us. When a striker starts scoring, he gains confidence. Sergio works hard for the team, but is also managing to score lots of goals."

Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri, who needed treatment following some over-enthusiastic touchline antics, then stressed the importance of coming away with a draw.

He added: "It is a very important point in a difficult arena like this. We must compliment Lazio for making it very difficult for us right from the first whistle.

"We wanted to get the result back on track and the players gave a strong response. Insigne did well coming off the bench, just as Pandev used to do a year ago. El Kaddouri also had a couple of good chances."
