Tottenham-Newcastle Betting Preview: Magpies strong enough to earn a draw despite Bale hot-streak
Alan Pardew's side travel to White Hart Lane looking for their third straight league win, but Jamie Dickenson sees a draw in prospect with Gareth Bale scoring again
Tottenham Hotspur take on a resurgent Newcastle United in the Premier League's lunchtime kick-off on Saturday at White Hart Lane. The hosts beat West Brom last weekend at the Hawthorns, and have been installed as the 4/6 (1.67) favourites for victory again with Paddy Power.
Newcastle have just recorded back-to-back victories in the league for the first time this season, having completed a rousing comeback at home to Chelsea thanks to two goals from new signing Moussa Sissoko last time out.Another win for the Magpies is available at a lengthy 4/1 (5.0), while the draw is quite an appealing prospect at 14/5 (3.80) given Newcastle's form and Tottenham's striker crisis.
With Jermain Defoe ruled out for three weeks after picking up a foot injury, and Emmanuel Adebayor poised to return to the club just 24 hours before the game having finished Africa Cup of Nations duty, Spurs look a little short on firepower to help achieve a win.
They do have a goalscoring threat in great form however, in the shape of Gareth Bale. The Welshman's mid-week goal against Austria was his third in three games for club and country and he could ease the striking burden on manager Andre Villas-Boas by netting first at 11/2 (6.50).Bale as a 6/4 (2.50) bet to net anytime again against Newcastle may be more likely, although it should be noted that he has scored just two of his 11 Premier League goals on home soil.
Even so, Bale's movement and finishing at the moment are extremely sharp, and those odds look good for a player that many would agree will be the most likely on the pitch to find the net.
Newcastle will be wary of White Hart Lane having endured a 5-0 thumping in this fixture last season, but the North-East outfit are strong enough this time around to take a point from the encounter.
