Dirk Kuyt: I’m used to big games

Ahead of the upcoming Istanbul derby, the Netherlands star feels his experience in a World Cup and Champions League final will help him cope with anything the clash throws at him

Fenerbahce’s Dirk Kuyt believes he has the mentality that will see him thrive in this weekend’s match with fierce rivals Galatasaray.

The two teams square off in a top-of-the-table clash in Super Lig, with Fatih Terim’s side leading Fenerbahce by two points after 15 games played.

And Kuyt, who has featured in both a World Cup final with Netherlands, and a Champions League final with Liverpool, thinks his experience of high-pressured games will be key for Sunday's encounter.

“I know the big matches,” Kuyt told TRT Spor.

“Waiting for the big game with Galatasaray, it is like in the Netherlands, waiting for the Ajax-Feyenoord matches.

“I played in England at Liverpool and I played in Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal matches. It is these big matches that I know, we will see what will happen on Sunday.”

Fenerbache won 2-1 against Istanbul Buyuksehir last weekend.
