The Macedonia international has been impressed by what he has seen of the 21-year-old in pre-season, believing his dribbling skills are like those of the Blaugrana aceNapoli attacker Goran Pandev has revealed that fellow forward Lorenzo Insigne reminds him of Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
Insigne is back at the San Paolo after a successful loan spell at Pescara and has been impressing all and sundry with his performances in pre-season, with the Italy Under-21 international netting the winner in the Partenopei's recent friendly win over Bayern Munich.
Pandev acknowledges that his young team-mate still has a long way to go before he can really be compared with three-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi, but he is in no doubt that Insigne is on the same path to greatness.
"He's a great guy," the Macedonia international told Radio Marte. "In terms of his dribbling, he reminds me of Messi.
"[Messi] is the best in the world, but [Insigne] has the possibility of tracing the career of the Barcelona phenomenon."
Insigne is being talked of as the ideal replacement for Ezequiel Lavezzi, who left for Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the summer, but Pandev does not quite see it that way.
"They are two different players," he mused. "But they are alike in one-on-ones. I think Lorenzo is better in front of goal than 'Pocho', but it's up to him to show his best."
Insigne struck 18 times in Serie B last season, with the striker's goals playing a key role in Pescara's promotion to the top flight.
