Málaga win Aggregate 2 - 1
Full time in La Rosaleda! Malaga progress to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League thanks to a 2-1 aggregate victory over Portuguese champions, Porto. Isco got the ball rolling the in first half with a superb strike from 20 yards, and Roque Santa Cruz got the tie winner with a bullet header just moments after coming on. Manuel Pellegrini has masterminded yet another victory in Europe. They may not be allowed in the competition next year, but you can be sure they'll enjoy this! I'm Martin Macdonald, thank you for joining us on Goal.com! See you next time!
MALAGA ARE THROUGH TO THE QUARTER-FINAL!
90' + 2'
Helton thumps the ball up the park but the ball is commandingly headed away by the superb Weligton! Porto going for broke now! They need to!
Four minutes of stoppage time! Not what the Malaga fans wanted to hear!
Martinez absolutely rifles the ball into the top left corner. Some finish! Too bad he was offside by five yards or so. It looks like Malaga who'll be entering the quarter-final draw on Friday! Unless...
Very dodgy defending at the back from Porto!! Helton and Otamendi are the perpetrators as they nearly pass the ball straight to the feet of Malaga attackers.
Five minutes of normal time remaining and the clock is against the Portuguese champions here. Not easy for Malaga either, do they stick or twist? Sit deep or keep a high line?
Yellow Card Eliaquim Mangala
Mangala continues the tradition of awful tackles in this game with a horrendous challenge on Jesus Gamez. He's the latest to go into the book. It's a miracle more players haven't been sent off here!
The game is on a knife edge at the moment. Don't forget, Porto will go through if they score as it's an away goal. Squeaky bum time for the Malaga supporters!
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL FOR PORTO!!!! WAIT!! NO!!! DISALLOWED!! Rodriguez curls in another superb free kick and Maicon heads into the corner of the net, but the play is brought back for an offside. That looked like the right decision!
Manuel Pellegrini makes a quick change and introduces on-loan Chelsea man, Lucas Piazon, in place of Javier Saviola.
Goal Roque Santa Cruz
GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL FOR MALAGA!!! Santa Cruz scores with his first touch of the match!! Isco curls in a corner kick from the right-hand side and the substitute rises high to direct a header into the bottom left corner! 2-0 on the night!
Malaga with a succession of corner kicks here. The first comes in but is nervously put behind by Danilo. Let's see what the hosts can make of the next...
Roque Santa Cruz
JACKSON MARTINEZ!!! HE MISSES BY A LICK OF PAINT!! James Rodriguez whips in a teasing free kick and the Colombian pokes out a foot, but his attempt goes the wrong side of the left-hand post! Caballero was certainly scrambling across goal!
Manuel Pellegrini decides it is time to make his first change of the match. Julio Baptista is withdrawn for Roque Santa Cruz. The Paraguayan will add another dimension up top.
Just under 20 minutes remaining at La Rosaleda. The game is so delicately poised at the moment as one goal changes the whole landscape of the match. Malaga look the more likely, but Porto always carrying a threat.
Vitor Pereira makes his final change for the visitors. Alex Sandro is substituted for Christian Atsu. Positive swap for Porto.
Great defending again from Weligton. Lucho clips a ball over the top and Jackson Martinez stretches his legs attempts to get on the end of the ball, but the footrace is won by the Malaga captain, who shows composure to retain possession and play back to Caballero.
What we have now is basically a polar opposite of the first leg. Porto are sitting very deep inside their own half and Malaga are knocking at the door attempting to extend their lead. The hosts must be weary though, as the Portuguese champions can be deadly on the counterattack.
Yellow Card Jérémy Toulalan
Ohhhh! Absolutely crunching challenge from Toulalan!! The Frenchman takes Lucho completely out with a sliding tackle from behind. The challenges have been flying in tonight! He earns a yellow.
ISCO!!! That was inches away!! Saviola dinks a lovely pass down the channel for the 20-year-old who manages to squeeze a shot towards goal from the byline, that goes just wide of the post. Helton was certainly beat!
Almost a wonderful pass from Lucho! The Porto captain screws a pass with the outside of his right foot down the centre for Martinez, who bursts a gut trying to get on the end of it, but Demichelis reads the play well and mops up at the back.
Second change of the match from Porto as Varela comes off to be replaced by Maicon. A defender on for an attacker.
SAVIOLA!!! The ball breaks kindly to the Argentine at the front post, who slices a shot towards goal, but Otamendi comes in with a fantastic goal-saving from from three yards out! That may have been creeping into the back of the net!
Malaga have a superb intensity in their pressing now. Martinez has been seen any of the ball so far and it's because his team-mates in midfield are winning the ball back frequently.
Great block again from Weligton. Varela drives past Antunes down the right-hand side and flashed a cross to the front post but, once again, the Malaga man is there to clear the ball away from danger. He has been a rock so far tonight.
Malaga have a spring in their step now. Isco and Joaquin and drifting in from the wings and Porto are struggling to deal with their movement at the moment. Porto need to regroup, and quick.
Vitor Pereira must be absolutely fuming! Defour has gave his team-mates a mountain to climb and Malaga have to be considered favourites now.
Yellow/Red Steven Defour
Steven Defour is sent off!! Joaquin skips past the Belgian down the right-hand side, who rashly rakes his studs down the heel of the Malaga man!! Absolutely mindless! Porto down to 10-men!
Well, as the score stands at the moment, we are heading into extra time. The match going beyond 90 minutes is a very real possibility as, on the balance of the two legs so far, the sides are incredibly close. One goal changes it all, though.
A change to report for you at the break. Joao Moutinho has been replaced by James Rodriguez for Porto. We can only assume that this substitution has been forced as the former Sporting man is the best playmaker of the visitors.
We are back under way at La Rosaleda!
Don't forget to post your thoughts, feelings, and predictions on the match onto the chat section of our Live Match Centre! Who do we reckon will progress to the quarter-finals?
Half time in La Rosaleda. A tough-tackling affair exploded into life in the last 10 minutes of the half as Malaga were denied a goal for a foul on Helton, a few minutes before Isco crashed in a superb strike to put his side ahead. Porto have had the better of possession but do not have much to show for it. A perfectly poised match, folks! Join us in 15 minutes for the second period!
That's us level in the tie folks. Isco cancels out Moutinho's strike from the first leg, and Manuel Pellegrini won't want half time at the moment. His team are on top!
Assist M. Iturra
GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL FOR MALAGA!! AND IT'S ISCO!!! Iturra slides the ball into the feet of the 20-yeard-old, who turns swiftly 20 yards out and whips a shot into the top left corner! 1-0 to the hosts!!
Great period for Malaga at the moment, they have really kicked up a gear in the last 10 minutes or so.
Awful decision from the officials! It looked as if Baptista was shoved into Helton by Danilo! If anything Malaga should have been awarded a spotkick!
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAL FOR MALAGA!! WAIT! NO!! The ball breaks to Saviola inside the box who finishes from a few yards out, but the play is brought back for a foul on Helton by Julio Baptista!!
Danilo should definitely be going into the book! He done brilliantly to nick the ball around Toulalan but then shamelessly fell to the floor despite the fact there was zero contact. The ref doesn't give the free kick but fails to brandish the yellow card!
Brilliant save from Helton!!! The corner is cleared to the edge of the area and Antunes arrows a shot towards goal that is terrifically tipped over by the Porto 'keeper! That's the closest Malaga have came to registering a goal!
Malaga earn their first corner kick of the evening and La Rosaleda erupts in expectation. Let's see what they can make of this...
Yellow Card Jesús Gámez
Ohhh very poor challenge from Jesus Gamez!! Alex Sandro goes on a fantastic marauding run down the left-hand sides and evades challenge after challenge until the Malaga right-back cuts him down with a scything tackle. Another yellow card dished out, and deservedly so.
Yellow Card Alex Sandro
Superb block from Weligton!! Moutinho twists and turns on the edge of the area and lets rip with a strike from 20 yards but the Malaga captain remains solid to make the challenge and stop the route to goal. That shot was going places!
Yellow Card Martín Demichelis
The ref is not shy about getting his cards out now! Demichelis is the latest to go in the book and he unceremoniously cuts Martinez down from behind on the halfway line. Daft yellow card, really.
Tight offside decision!! Joaquin looks to pick out Saviola with a threaded pass through the middle but the Argentine looks to be half a yard ahead of play. That was certainly close!
Yellow Card Steven Defour
Lucho floats in the corner but it's dealt with comfortably by Malaga, who clear the ball up the park. Isco looks to chest down and move forward but is taken out by a high boot of Defour, who earns a deserved booking.
Lucho Gonzalez tests his shooting boots from 25 yards out but his attempt deflects off the shin of Iturra on it's way to goal. Another corner kick opportunity for Porto.
Much better from the hosts!! Saviola take a quick throw-in and Joaquin drives into the box down the inside-right channel but his lashed cross into the area is dealt with by Fernando, who smashes the ball out of play.
Varela shows excellent pace and strength down the right-hand side and eventually his cross deflects of Weligton and goes behind. First corner kick of the match for the Portuguese champions.
Toulalan clips the ball into the box instead of taking on the shot and Mangala manages to thump the ball clear and the chance is wasted for the hosts.
Yellow Card Nicolás Otamendi
First booking of the match goes to Otamendi for an extremely rash challenge on Antunes! That was two-footed and it definitely could have been red! Looks like we have a lenient ref tonight folks! Malaga have a free kick 25 yards from goal.
Porto looking very comfortable on the ball in the opening stages. Moutinho, Lucho, and Fernando are dictating play from the middle of the park at the moment. No real goalscoring chances for either side yet, though.
Very high foot from Martinez!! The Colombian almost comes in contact with the face of Iturra as he raises his boot. He also manages to leave without a yellow card, though. Manchester United fans may balk at that as it was nearly the same challenge Nani was dismissed for against Real Madrid!
Late challenge from Defour!! Demichelis clears the ball to safety and the Porto man comes in from behind to rake the back of his legs with his studs. The Belgian is quite lucky to escape that without a booking. Malaga free kick deep in their own half.
Joaquin's touch lets him down!! Toulalan floats a superb ball over the top of the Porto defence for his team-mate, but the former Valencia man just couldn't stretch out his foot to take the ball down. Unlucky in the end!
Good covering from Jesus Gamez there! Jackson Martinez turns sharply on the edge of the box and looks to take on Demichelis but the full-back comes across to rob the Colombian of the ball before he could pull the trigger.
Soft foul from Iturra on Lucho. The Porto captain went down very easily inside the centre circle, but it was impressive pressing from the home side.
The visitors have settled the better so far. Already we are seeing a slight resemblance to the first leg in that Malaga are sitting deep and soaking up pressure. With Joaquin and Isco on either wing, though, they'll be dangerous on the counterattack.
Good tackle from Weligton. Lucho fizzes a pass into the feet of Steven Defour and the Belgian looks poised to have a crack at goal from the edge of the area, but the Malaga captain comes in with a well-timed challenge.
There's a vibrant atmosphere in the home crowd as we get started! The La Rosaleda faithful has already begun booing loudly whenever Porto are on the ball!
We are under way at La Rosaleda! Malaga and Porto battle it out for a place in the quarter-final!
This should be a cracker, folks. Featured here are two teams who like to play flowing attacking football, so all the signs point to lots of goals!
As well as this being Malaga's maiden adventure in the Champions League. This match is also new territory in that they have never had to overturn a first-leg away defeat in European competition.
Victor Pereira's side have a strong record when winning the first leg at home, though, going through 33 times. Porto perhaps the favourites to progress!
Malaga's defeat in the first leg was there first ever Champions League defeat. They will be eager to make sure they don't suffer their second tonight!
Porto (4-3-3): Helton; Danilo, Mangala, Sandro, Otamendi; Gonzalez, Moutinho, Fernando; Defour, Martinez, Varela.
Malaga (4-4-2): Willy; Gamez, Weligton, Demichelis, Antunes; Joaquín, Toulalan, Iturra, Isco; Saviola, Baptista.
The Spanish outfit have their work cut out for them, as the Portuguese champions won the first leg at Estadio Dragao 1-0 thanks to a solitary strike from Joao Moutinho.
