  • The African Cup of Nations really has come to life this evening! Cape Verde, the darkhorses of this year's tournament will face the winner of Group B in the quarter-finals. How far can they go? Thanks for joining me, Max Bentley, on a quite astounding evening of football. Goodbye.
  • Angola coach Gustavo Ferrin will be furious with his goalkeeper. Two absolute howlers from Lama have gifted Cape Verde victory. The Black Antelopes are sent packing!
  • Football never ceases to amaze! With ten minutes to go Cape Verde were on the verge of being eliminated but two late goals has ensured their progress to the quarter-finals in their first ever appearance in the competition. What an achievement for Lucio Antunes and the Blue Sharks.
  • FULL TIME: CAPE VERDE 2 - 1 ANGOLA. CAPE VERDE ARE THROUGH TO THE QUARTER-FINALS.

    GoalHéldon Ramos
CAPE VERDE SCORE!! Heldon is the hero for Cape Verde. A cross from the right is fumbled inexplicably by Lama into the path of the Maritimo striker who thrashes the ball in with his left foot from close range. The Cape Verde bench run onto the pitch. Unbelievable scenes!!

Morocco 2 - 2 South Africa. Still hope for both sides.

CAPE VERDE EQUALISE!! Fernando Varela could just have scored the goal that sends Cape Verde into the quarter-finals. Lama flaps from a corner and Tavares' header is cleared off the line by Dias before Gege's rebound is turned in on the goalline by the centre-back sparking wild celebrations on the touchline. What a turnaround!
  • 80'
    SubstitutionGilberto Geraldo
  • 80'
Gustavo Ferrin is desperate for his side to hold on and he brings on defender Geraldo for set-piece specialist Gilberto.
  • 79'
CAPE VERDE SHOULD BE LEVEL! Marco Soares sends a curling cross into the box and Tavares meets it unmarked but watches on agonisingly as it flashes narrowly over the crossbar.
  • 78'
    Yellow CardPirolito
  • 78'
Pirolito is the first Angolan to be cautioned for a mistimed tackle on Babanco.
  • 77'
Gilberto's deliveries have been excellent today and Manucho comes within inches of his first goal of the tournament when his header glances just wide of the post. Both coaches look animated on the touchline. They are clearly aware of the other result.
  • 75'
Gilberto lays the ball off to Dede on the edge of the box but the midfielder's powerful strike is blocked by Fernando Neves. Less than fifteen minutes remaining. Can Cape Verde find the equaliser which would send them through?
  • 74'
Incidentally there has been an equaliser in the other match in Group A. It is now South Africa 1 - 1 Morocco. As things stand, Angola are heading through.
  • 73'
Gilberto whips in a fantastic cross deep into the box but there is no Angola player gambling at the back post and Cape Verde survive.
  • 72'
WHAT A CHANCE FOR CAPE VERDE! Djaniny controls Ryan Mendes' cross in front of goal but the substitute dallies in possession and Lama is off his line quickly to smother the ball. He should have got his shot away there.
  • 70'
Angola are on the back foot at the moment as Cape Verde continue to come forward in search of that elusive equaliser. Djaniny crosses from the right but Tavares is beaten to the aerial ball by Airosa.
  • 68'
Angola only manage to half-clear the resulting corner to the edge of the box but Marco Soares' drive is always rising and flashes over the crossbar.
  • 67'
Heldon delivers a freekick from the left into the box but Gege's flicked header towards goal ricochets off Manucho and behind for a corner.
  • 65'
GOOD SAVE FROM LAMA! Heldon bends the freekick over the wall but Lama gets across his goal well to make a sprawling save.
  • 64'
    SubstitutionMateus Dédé
Mateus has worked tirelessly up front for Angola today and the Nacional forward is replaced by holding midfielder Dede. Gustavo Ferrin is clearly looking to hold on to this lead.
  • 64'
Dias concedes a freekick on the edge of the box for clipping the heels of Djaniny. Well within shooting distance for Cape Verde.
  • 61'
Heldon looks to pick out the tall figure of Tavares with a cross into the box but the striker is marshalled excellently by Massunguna and is beaten in the air. This Angolan defence continues to stand firm.
  • 59'
Ryan Mendes plays a neat pass to Marco Soares and looks for the return pass but is denied by a crucial interception from Bastos. It's not quite coming off for the Blue Sharks at the moment.
  • 58'
    Yellow CardHéldon Ramos
  • 57'
Djalma looks to double his side's lead with a freekick from 25 yards out. He manages to get the ball over the wall but his effort goes inches wide of Vozinha's right-hand post.
  • 55'
After a promising start to the second period, Cape Verde have now been forced back into their own half. Julio Tavares looks to bulldoze his way past two defenders but is reprimanded by the referee.
  • 53'
Ryan Mendes requires a spot of treatment after a foul from Mateus. No bookings in this match so far.
  • 52'
Djalma is looking lively down the left and he feeds the ball into the path of Manucho who smashes a thunderous left-footed effort against the foot of the post. However, it would not have counted as the linesman's flag had been raised.
  • 50'
Djalma uses his pace to skip past the challenge of Fernando Varela but his teasing cross into the box is headed clear by Carlitos. Warning signs for Cape Verde.
  • 48'
Good spell of pressure from Cape Verde who are looking to find an equaliser early in the second half.
  • 47'
DIAS TO THE RESCUE! With Lama flapping from a corner, Tavares diverts Babanco's corner towards goal but is denied twice on the goalline by Dias. Wonderful defending. He's kept his side in the lead there.

  • 46'
Double substitution for Cape Verde with Heldon and Djaniny coming on to replace Platini and Toni Varela. Will Antunes' tactical nous pay off in the second half?
  • Angola need South Africa to equalise, then they would finish second above Morocco.
  • If Morocco can hold on to their lead over South Africa, Cape Verde will need to score two to advance to the quarter-finals. Let's see what Lucio Antunes has up his sleeve. The second half is only moments away.
  • Group A (as it stands) 1st: Morocco - 5 points 2nd: South Africa - 4 points 3rd: Angola - 4 points 4th: Cape Verde - 2 points. South Africa would qualify ahead of Angola as a result of the head-to-head rule. The Bafana Bafana defeated Gustavo Ferrin's side 2-0.
  • What did you make of that first half? Can Cape Verde turn this game around? Let me know your thoughts via Twitter @MaxBentley1.
  • HALF TIME: CAPE VERDE 0 - 1 ANGOLA. Fernando Neves' own goal has give Angola a deserved lead at the break. Cape Verde have not shown the same attacking endeavour and promise from their other group matches and have not really tested Lama in the Angolan goal. As things stand, Morocco and South Africa will advance to the next round. But as we all know, a lot of things can change in 45 minutes. Stay tuned for the second half!
  • 45'
Tavares latches on to Varela's long ball upfield but is frustrated to see that the linesman's flag is raised. Big half-time teamtalk ahead for Lucio Antunes if he is to turn this game around.
  • 43'
It's probably been Cape Verde's worst half of this African Cup of Nations and Babanco epitomises his side's performance when his ambitious strike skews horribly wide of Lama's goal.
  • 42'
Lama is forced into a good stop when Babanco's cross-cum-shot nearly catches him out at the near post. Can Angola hold on to their slender advantage until the break?
  • 40'
Manucho looks to send his strike partner Mateus away with a neat slide pass but Neves produces a perfectly-timed slide challenge to intercept it. Top defending from the 34-year-old.
  • 38'
Signs of urgency being shown by Lucio Antunes' side who are looking to restore parity before the break. Mendes picks out Platini with a cross to the back post but the Santa Clara attacker watches his header go wide of the target.
  • 35'
IT SHOULD BE 1-1! Babanco curls in a wonderful freekick but Julio Tavares' flicked header whistles narrowly past the post.
  • 33'
    Own GoalNando
ANGOLA LEAD!! Djalma spots the run of Amaro down the left wing and the left-back drills in a teasing low cross towards Mateus which is deflected into his own net by Fernando Neves. So unlucky for the Cape Verde captain! Can the Blue Sharks respond?
  • 32'
Platini wriggles past his marker down the left-hand side before fizzing in a low cross towards Tavares but Dias is on hand to punt the ball upfield.
  • 31'
Angola are looking the more comfortable in possession but they just cannot find a way to penetrate this stubborn Cape Verde defence. Good pressing and organisation from the Blue Sharks.
  • 29'
Marco Soares looks to open the scoring with a fierce drive from distance but the midfielder's shot is well blocked by Amaro.
  • 27'
Finally a sustained period of pressure from Cape Verde. First, Carlitos is sent clear down the left wing but he fails to pick out a blue and red shirt in the box before Tavares heads Mendes' corner just over the crossbar.
  • 25'
Angola are looking to get the ball up to Manucho as quickly as possible but Fernando Neves is tight to the striker. Angola need to get their wide players more involved.
  • 24'
Babanco whips a freekick into the box but Manucho is back to perform his defensive duties and the Real Valladolid striker heads clear. Both sides are lacking that creative spark in the final third at the moment.
  • 21'
Cape Verde are yet to get going in this match and it is Gustavo Ferrin's side who are dominating at the moment. However, the central defensive partnership of Varela and Neves has proved to be one of the strongest in this tournament. Can Angola break the deadlock?
  • 19'
Angola need to be careful that they do not commit too many players forward because Cape Verde are quick and are looking to take advantage on the counterattack. Marco Airosa needs to be alert to deny Ryan Mendes from latching onto Babanco's slide pass.
  • 17'
Fernando Varela looks to send Platini away with a lofted ball over the top of the Angola defence but the Vaslui defender's pass is slightly overhit and runs out for a goalkick.
  • 15'
Mateus storms down the right wing before sending a cross in towards Manucho but Gege is on hand to produce a vital clearance.
  • 14'
The Blue Sharks certainly seem a bit shaky in the opening 15 minutes and are yet to settle into their rhythm. Angola shading it.
  • 13'
Gilberto whips a dangerous freekick into the Cape Verde penalty area which is glanced narrowly wide by the head of Manucho. The former-Manchester United man is proving a handful in the opening exchanges.
  • 11'
Morocco lead South Africa 1-0 through Issam El Adoua. Cape Verde and Angola are going out as the scores stand.
  • 10'
Cape Verde are nearly masters of their own downfall when Neves heads the ball out from under his own goalkeeper and he is fortunate that Fernando Varela is alert to clear Manucho's header off the line.
  • 8'
Ryan Mendes looks to bend an effort from the edge of the box into the top right-hand corner but the Lille striker watches the ball fly narrowly over the crossbar.
  • 7'
Djalma gets free down the right wing for Angola but his cross, intended for Manucho, is well cut out by Carlitos. Incidentally, Carlitos happens to be the cousin of Manchester United star Nani.
  • 6'
Amaro returns to the field sporting a large bandage around his head.
  • 5'
Cape Verde attempt a clever freekick routine when Ryan Mendes squares the ball for Marco Soares but his goalbound effort is well blocked by the Angolan defence.
  • 4'
Incidentally Amaro received a blow to the head after a challenge with Julio Tavares. I'm not too sure whether the Angolan defender will be able to continue.
  • 4'
Dani Massunguna is penalised for a foul on Platini and this is a promising freekick opportunity for the Blue Sharks.
  • 2'
Platini nearly capitalises on hesitancy in the Angolan defence but Lama is off his line quickly to claim the ball.
  • 1'
Angola get the final Group A match underway!
  • The national anthems echo around the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and captains Fernando Neves and Manucho exchange handshakes in the centre-circle. That could be the key battle of this match. Can Neves keep Angola's record goalscorer quiet? Manucho has not quite transferred his club form for Real Valladolid to this tournament just yet. Can he prove to be the Black Antelopes' saviour tonight?
  • These sides have met before on three occasions, with Cape Verde winning two of the encounters whilst the other ended as a draw. Can they keep up their unbeaten record against Angola?
  • Cape Verde coach Lucio Antunes is currently on leave from his full-time job as an air traffic controller. Can he produce one of the greatest upsets in the history of the African Cup of Nations by qualifying for the quarter-finals in the nation's debut appearance? Only ten minutes until kickoff.
  • ANGOLA (4-4-2): Lama, Airosa, Dany Massunguna, Bastos, Amaro, Djalma, Manucho Dias, Gilberto, Pirolito, Manucho, Mateus. Subs: Landu, Lunguinha, Fabricio, Dede, Zuela, Miguel, Geraldo, Yano, Mingo Bile, Manuel, Guilherme, Neblu.
  • CAPE VERDE ISLANDS (4-4-2): Vozinha, Varela, Tony, Nando, Gege, Carlitos, Babanco, Platini, Marco Soares, Tavares, Ryan Mendes. Subs: Fredson, Stenio, Guy Ramos, Ze Luis, Nhuck, Josimar, Rony, Nivaldo, Pecks, Djaniny, David Silva, Rilly.
  • The permutations for the knockout stages are a little tricky but I'll fill you in as best as I can. If both games end as a draw, South Africa will advance whilst Angola will be eliminated. If Cape Verde or Morocco have a higher scoring draw than the other, that team would go through to the quarter-finals. So if Cape Verde draw 0-0 and Morocco draw 1-1, Morocco go through and vice-versa. In the event that both results are exactly the same (0-0, 1-1, 2-2), it will go down to fair play. Morocco have five yellow cards at the moment, while Cape Verde have three. Let's hope it doesn't go down to that though! Victory for Cape Verde or Morocco guarantees their progress to the quarter-finals.
  • Both Cape Verde and Angola have the chance to qualify for the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations when they face off in the final Group A match. Cape Verde have surpassed expectations so far and the Blue Sharks can consider themselves unfortunate not to have registered their first every victory in the tournament finals after impressive displays against South Africa and Morocco. Angola know that only a win will suffice but the Black Antelopes could still face elimination if Morocco beat South Africa.
