Player Ratings: Inter 2-0 Verona

Goal.com was on hand to cast a critical eye over events at San Siro as goals from Antonio Cassano and Fredy Guarin led the Nerazzurri into the Coppa Italia quarter-finals

    Luca Castellazzi

Came up with a good save from Cacia in the second half to prevent Verona from pulling a goal back, but injured himself in the process, and his withdrawal dropped his team down to 10 men.

  • Cristian Chivu

    Cristian Chivu

Given a little trouble with the movement of Verona on the counter and was unlucky not to see one or two lapses punished. A very hit-or-miss game in defence.

  • Jonathan

    Jonathan

Not involved enough in play, as he often adopted non-threatening positions on the flanks. His team could have used a bit more thrust and initiative from him because he too often took the safe option.

  • Juan Jesus

    3.00

    Juan Jesus

Involved in an interesting battle with Cacia for most of the game and, more than once, he was forced to step in to make a vital tackle or interception. Another mature display from the young Brazilian centre-back.

  • Matías Silvestre

    Matías Silvestre

Was rather sloppy to allow Bojinov past him on one Verona attack but, otherwise, he did his job well at the back.

  • Yuto Nagatomo

    3.50

    Yuto Nagatomo

His pace allowed him to find space on the overlap and he more often than not found a route into the danger area. He provided Inter with another dangerous outlet when attacking.

  • Joseph Duncan

    Joseph Duncan

Put in a somewhat tidy shift in midfield, affording the Inter back three a decent amount of protection. Never looked to get forward too much, though, and was wasteful with his passing.

  • McDonald Mariga

    McDonald Mariga

Sent a shot from the edge of the box just wide with one of the first chances of the match but was otherwise a bit flat in midfield, as he failed to do much outside of the bare minimum required of him. Substituted at half-time.

  • Ricardo Álvarez

    Ricardo Álvarez

Decent in possession but not always decisive enough, particularly when presented with a great chance at the end of the opening 45 minutes. Rather overshadowed by the play of Cassano and Guarin in the second half.

  • Antonio Cassano

    0
    4.00

    Antonio Cassano

Verona’s disciplined defending in the first half made it difficult for him to stamp his authority on the game. He managed to find a way through far more frequently in the second period, though, opening the scoring with a well-timed run and finish, assisting Guarin for Inter’s second, and setting up Palacio for a pair of opportunities to grab a third.

  • Rodrigo Palacio
    1
    0
    4.00

    Rodrigo Palacio

Save from a great one-two with Alvarez, he was rather anonymous for much of the first half. Verona’s defensive lapses after the interval afforded him more opportunities to make an impact, and but for the alertness of Rafael, he would have had a goal. Forced to mind the net in the closing stages, but made a great save on Carrozza to keep Inter's clean sheet.

    Javier Zanetti

Added further calm to Inter, the captain provided his side plenty of solid moments both on and off the ball.

  • Á. Pereira

    Á. Pereira

Did not have much time to make an impact.

  • Fredy Guarín

Fredy Guarín Top of the Match

A game-changing substitution in every sense of the term, as within five minutes of his introduction, he laid on the opener for Cassano after winning the ball well in midfield and releasing the Italian with a good through ball. Moments later, he made it 2-0 with a deflected effort from 20 yards out.

  • Rafael
    1
    0
    4.00

    Rafael

Made a series of spectacular saves in the second half to deny Inter, and especially Palacio, another goal. Did not deserve to be on the losing side.

  • Michelangelo Albertazzi

    2.50

    Michelangelo Albertazzi

Guilty of surrendering possession too often in the second half. Though he tried hard, he did not always have the requisite quality.

  • Matteo Abbate

    3.00

    Matteo Abbate

Supported the attack well on the right flank, and did what was required of him in defense, a solid game from the full back.

  • Vangelis Moras

Vangelis Moras Flop of the Match

Shocking in the second half, as he gave the ball away in the buildup to Inter's first, and conceded the free-kick that led to their second. Never recovered, as he finished the match a bundle of nerves.

  • Domenico Maietta
    0
    0
    3.00

    Domenico Maietta

Generally solid, but slipped up at a crucial moment as his slack marking on Cassano allowed the striker enough time to run in behind and score in the second half. Missed a glorious chance to score late on with a header.

  • Emil Hallfredsson

    3.00

    Emil Hallfredsson

Fashioned one or two openings for Verona on the break with his accurate passing, but faded somewhat from proceedings as the match went on.

  • Armin Bačinovič

    3.00

    Armin Bačinovič

Could not be faulted for effort, as he facilitated the attack well while tracking back diligently when the occasion required him to do so.

  • Jorginho
    0
    0
    2.50

    Jorginho

Not the most alert presence in midfield, as he was bypassed on a series of plays in the second half. A passenger at times.

  • Paolo Grossi
    0
    0
    2.50

    Paolo Grossi

Made himself a real handful for the Inter defence with his quality deliveries from out wide. Always seemed to be able to pick out a teammate once he found the space.

  • Daniele Cacia
    0
    0
    3.50

    Daniele Cacia

His movement kept Juan Jesus on his toes, as he always seemed to be a step or two away from finding a great shooting opportunity. Nearly scored in the first half with a shot on the turn that touched off the woodwork, and another that was saved.

  • Juanito
    0
    0
    2.00

    Juanito

Marked out of the game, rarely getting much time on the ball, and looking very uninspired when he did.

Substitutions

  • Alessandro Carrozza

    Alessandro Carrozza

Instantly added another dimension to his team in attack, setting up a number of opportunities in the second half, and coming close to a goal himself with a header.

  • Andrea Cocco

    Andrea Cocco

Given a late run out in the closing stages.

  • Valeri Bojinov

    Valeri Bojinov

Missed two great chances after his introduction - a wasteful cameo from the former Manchester City man.
