FORTUNA DUSSELDORF 2-0 HAMBURG
Fortuna Dusseldorf finally claimed their first home win since making their return to the Bundesliga by beating Hamburg 2-0 on Friday.
The first arrived on the stroke of half-time. Andreas Lambertz charged forward from midfield, offloaded the ball to Robbie Kruse, whose 20-yard shot whistled past Rene Adler into the back of the net.
Soon after the break, Heiko Westermann thought he had brought his side level with a free kick, only to see the referee rule his strike out for a foul on one of the Dusseldorf defenders.
And Hamburg's misery was complete just after the hour mark when Stefan Reisinger dribbled through a sea of defenders and lifted the ball high into Adler's net.
SCHALKE 1-1 EINTRACHT FRANKFURT
Schalke slipped out of second place in the Bundesliga when they were held to a 1-1 draw at the Veltins Arena by Eintracht Frankfurt.
Things started well for the hosts, who took the leader after just 11 minutes. Lewis Holtby was alert enough to nick possession of the ball from a Frankfurt midfielder, and the Germany international strode forward and fed Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who made no mistake from a matter of yards.
Just two minutes later, they were pegged back. Bastian Oczipka charged down the left, hung in a fantastic cross to the far post, and Stefan Aigner was there to head it past a flat-footed Lars Unnerstall and level things up.
Karim Matmour saw red late on for a clumsy challenge on Roman Neustadter, but it mattered little - Frankfurt were able to hold on and claim a point that sees them remain in the top four.
WOLFSBURG 1-1 WERDER BREMEN
Wolfsburg's revival since the departure of Felix Magath continued when they held in-form Werder Bremen to a 1-1 draw at the Volkswagen Arena.
The hosts had a claim for an early penalty when Diego's free kick struck an arm in the wall, but much to the Brazilian's frustration, the referee refused to point to spot. They continued to press for the opener, but were denied by the post when a right-wing cross struck an unfortunate Bremen body.
Bas Dost also saw a header crash off the woodwork, and sure enough, Wolfsburg were made to pay for their missed chances when Eljero Elia dribbled to the byeline and cut the ball back for Marko Arnautovic, who was left with a tap-in.
Bremen's chances of victory were dealt a blow when Lukas Schmitz received a second yellow card when on the hour-mark, and Wolfsburg capitalised when Dost tapped home after some selfless work from Vieirinha.
GREUTHER FURTH 0-0 NURNBERG
Greuther Furth and Nurnberg were forced into a share of the spoils in a bad-tempered Bavarian derby at the Trolli Arena.
Zoltan Stieber had early appeals for a spot kick waved away when he appeared to be brought down by a clumsy Per Nilsson challenge, but, to the bewilderment of the Furth coaching staff, the referee waved play on.
Gerald Asamoah then had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock after a sloppy backpass, but elected to do a pointless stepover in the box, allowing Timm Klose to make a recovering tackle. Nurnberg's task was made all the harder when Markus Feulner went in with a horrendous tackle and received his marching orders late in the first half.
Raphael Schafer then made a great close-range save to deny Asamoah once more, before another red card, this time to Sercan Sararer, left both sides with 10 men on the pitch. Depleted, neither team was able to force a winner.
FREIBURG 3-0 STUTTGART
Freiburg's excellent run of recent form continued when they overcame Stuttgart 3-0 at the Mage Solar Stadion in the Baden-Wurttemberg derby.
It was the visitors who came closest to breaking the deadlock in the opening period of the game, with Zdravko Kuzmanovic sending an excellent long-range shot off the post. Their bad luck was to prove costly. Seconds later, Julian Schuster combined well with Jan Rosenthal, who powered an effort into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
His strike was enough to separate the two teams at the break, and with just under 25 minutes left to play, they doubled their advantage. Sven Ulreich made a meal of clearing a free kick into the box, and Pavel Krmas was there to take possession of the ball and tap it into the empty net.
The win was complete when Daniel Caligiuri headed on Oliver Baumann's punt upfield, and Max Kruse slotted it home.
HOFFENHEIM 1-2 LEVERKUSEN
Bayer Leverkusen's recent run of excellent form continued when they claimed a 2-1 won over Hoffenheim at the Rhein Neckar Arena.
It was the visitors who made the stronger start. Gonzalo Castro's free kick caused all sorts of problems for the hosts, and Lars Bender was there to steer it into the net. Just before the break, it was two. Dani Carvajal played a fine one-two with Andre Schurrle, rounded Koen Casteels, and placed the ball into the empty net.
After the break, though, the hosts fought back. Roberto Firmino sent a deep cross landed at the feet Fabian Jonhson, who steered it into the net via a deflection.
Leverkusen came within inches of restoring their two-goal lead when Andre Schurrle sent the ball onto the bar from 35 yards, and although Markus Babbel's side pushed for an equaliser, they were unable to grab a draw.
AUGSBURG 1-1 MONCHENGLADBACH
Borussia Monchengladbach missed the chance to climb into the top half of the table, crashing to a disappointing 1-1 draw with Augsburg in Bavaria.
Surprisingly, it was the Bundesliga's bottom club that took the lead after just five minutes. Kevin Vogt made a charge down the right, and Sascha Molders was there to meet the ball, and send a looping header over Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who didn't seem to see it coming.
For much of the match, it looked as though the goal would stand until the end, until the hosts suffered a gutting fate. A long throw from the right was headed away, but pumped back into the box, and an agonising header from Gibril Sankoh took the ball into the path of Patrick Herrmann, who lifted the ball over Mohamed Amsif to nick a point.
Thanks to this draw, Gladbach remain in 11th place, with Augsburg still propping up the Bundesliga.
