Player Ratings: Newcastle 2-1 Norwich

The hosts survived a late siege to register their third win on the trot thanks to early strikes from French duo Remy and Gouffran

    Tim Krul

A quieter afternoon for the Dutch keeper after his last outing against Tottenham. Had to be alert to keep out Fer early and had couple of heart-in-mouth moments as he watched a few efforts fly narrowly over his crossbar. Was largely untested throughout by the visitors until Fer found a way past him.

  • Fabricio Coloccini

    Fabricio Coloccini

Looked his usual calm and collected self in on his return to heart of the Newcastle defence. Showed no signs of rustiness as he dealt with the presence of Hooper, and latterly Elmander, with his usual effortless demeanour.

  • Davide Santon

    Davide Santon

Looked lively down the left as he and Gouffran linked up early on. Showed a good understanding with the Frenchman but that disintegrated in the second period as the home side were forced deeper into their own half.

  • Mike Williamson

    Mike Williamson

Another impressive display from the former Watford defender as he continued to show his aerial ability. Was able to get the ball clear when needed and was never really caught out on any occasion, as he and Coloccini dealt with the majority of balls into the area.

  • Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa

    Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa

Provided decent cover at right-back for the suspended Debuchy and was happy to get forward as well to support the attack. Was forced deeper along with his team-mates as the match went on though.

  • Yohan Cabaye

    3.50

    Yohan Cabaye

Showcased his creativity once again with an assist for fellow Frenchman Remy in early opening period. Forged a number of chances for the front pair with his incisive passing and showed an appetite for a tackle once more as he continues to rebuild bridges with the Newcastle faithful.

  • Moussa Sissoko

    Moussa Sissoko

Should have put the hosts two up when he was slipped through by Ameobi. Continued to cover every blade of grass as he ran at the defence time and time again. Just unfortunate there was no end product.

  • Cheikh Tiote

    Cheikh Tiote

Threatened to produce something special when he sent an effort fizzing over the bar from 25 yards out in the first half. Will have enjoyed the physical side of the game as Fer and Johnson proved worthy opponents in the centre of the park.

  • Yoan Gouffran
    1
    0
    3.00

    Yoan Gouffran

Doubled the home side's lead with the easiest goal he's likely to score all season when he tapped home after Ruddy's fumble. Was happy to perform his defensive duties as well as he tracked back to help out Santon whenever necessary.

  • Loïc Remy

Loïc Remy Top of the Match

Kept up his incredible goalscoring record when he gave the hosts an early lead, nodding home from Cabaye's corner in just the second minute. Posed a constant threat with darting runs in behind the Norwich back four and provided the cross that eventually saw the second goal.

  • Shola Ameobi

    3.00

    Shola Ameobi

Caused a shaky Norwich defence problems throughout with his physical presence. Had to be denied on a couple of occasions by Ruddy as he threatened to add his name to the scoresheet. Taken off for Cisse late on after showing signs of fatigue with some wayward efforts on goal.

Came on for the exhausted Ameobi and sent a late header over the bar.

    John Ruddy

Won't want to see the replays for the second goal as he gifted it to the home side. More than made up for it with some fine stops, including a notable one from a stinging Ameobi effort.

  • Russell Martin

    Russell Martin

Troubled by Gouffran early on and lost the Frenchman a couple of times as the hosts started brightly. Regained his composure though and was involved as his side mounted their late surge.

Michael Turner Flop of the Match

Was given a tough time in the aerial battle with Ameobi throughout the afternoon. Showed his ability in the air in defence but should have done better with a late chance when he failed to make contact with the ball.

  • Martin Olsson

    Martin Olsson

Given a tough time in the opening period along with Turner by the host's front line partnership. Had it easier in the second half as Norwich's defence got it together.

  • Ryan Bennett

    Ryan Bennett

Marshaled the left wing as Sissoko and Newcastle threatened in the opening period. Lucky not to see red late on as he scythed down Sissoko as the hosts threatened to break and add a third.

  • Bradley Johnson

    Bradley Johnson

Sat deep to allow his midfield companions Fer and Howson to get forward. Didn't always get the better of his midfield battles, with Cabaye dispossessing him a couple of times in dangerous positions.

  • Jonny Howson

    Jonny Howson

Looked dangerous when in possession in the midfield, always threatening to burst forward. Everything Norwich created seemed to start with him in what was a an accomplished display.

  • Leroy Fer

    3.50

    Leroy Fer

Should have done better when presented with the opportunity to level for the visitors from just six yards out. Involved in an intriguing battle in the middle of the park with Tiote as Norwich looked to go toe-to-to with the hosts in midfield. Got the late goal but it wasn't enough.

  • Anthony Pilkington

    Anthony Pilkington

Watched his looping header drop agonisingly short of the far post in the opening period as Norwich looked to claw themselves back on to level terms. Had to be stretchered off at the beginning of the second period with an injury to his right leg.

  • Nathan Redmond

    Nathan Redmond

Blazed over Krul's crossbar when well positioned early on. Took over free-kick duties too in the absence of Robert Snodgrass but wasted a decent opening by firing into the wall.

  • Gary Hooper

    Gary Hooper

Is having to learn quickly the differences between being a Scottish Premier League and a English Premier League striker. Didn't get the service he required in the lone striker role and often looked isolate, even with the introduction of Elmander.
