1. Andrea Silenzi - Nottingham Forest, 1995
When the striker signed for Forest in 1995, he became the first ever Italian to play in the Premier League. The forward joined from Torino for a reported £1.8 million.
However, the frontman failed miserably making only 20 competitive appearances for the Tricky Trees, during which time he scored just twice.
He subsequently went on loan to Venezia the following summer. It is alleged that then Forest boss Dave Basset (who took over in March, 1997) tore his contract when the player refused to return from Venezia.
He is widely regarded as one of the worst transfers in Premier League history with his move having cost the club a cumulative sum of around £3 million.
