Serbia vs Belgium: Marko Pantelic against Gaby Mudingayi (AFP)
Marko Pantelic is a striker currently playing for Dutch Eredivise side Ajax. He signed a one year contract with them last year after completing a series of medical check ups and currently wears the number 9 shirt. Pantelic moved abroad at a very early age when he accepted an offer from French outfit Paris Saint-Germain. However, due to a lack of first team action, he moved to FC Lausanne-Sport for one season. There he scored 14 goals in 21 appearances for the Swiss club.

He moved again at the end of the season to Spanish side Celt Vigo but again endured an unsuccessful campaign there. Consequently, he was loaned out to Austrian club SK Strum Graz.

In 2002, Pantelic nearly signed for Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade. However, the deal fell through and he instead joined FK Obilic. Many critics believed that a move back home probably depicted that Pantelic wanted to start afresh following his miserable campaigns abroad. He was still only 24 years of age when he came back. Now, Pantelic began to find his form and after settling in quickly, he began a key figure for his club, leading them to the Yugoslav Cup title in 2003.

His excellent performances did not go unnoticed and soon, yet again, he was linked with Red Star in 2004 but this time the deal went through. Pantelic thus became Red Star's biggest mid-season signing.
