UEFA-Cup: Werder Bremen - Hamburg HSV, Tim Wiese (firo)
It took until 18 November 2009 before goalkeeper Tim Wiese finally was selected for the starting XI of the German national team, although he previously showed outstanding performances in matches with his club Werder Bremen for a number of years. So far it has been the only time he was in the first eleven as he is facing stiff competition among the goalkeepers. Nonetheless, he is assured of being part of the squad for South Africa.

He has great reflexes and an uncompromising style - in both a good and negative sense. This makes it hard for a forward to beat him, but sometimes he is also too keen to do go down. There is the possibility he will be the first choice of Joachim Löw for the World Cup, but his rivals Manuel Neuer and Hans-Jorg Butt will also have their say on that issue.

Did you know?

Tim Wiese started his career as a forward. He only became a goalkeeper because of an injury and sent into goal during his time at Bayer Leverkusen.
