Atletico de Kolkata were on the lookout for a balanced squad and were happy with their selections in the International player draft...
After the international players draft in Mumbai, Atletico de Kolkata felt they had the right mix to forge a successful team in the inaugural Indian Super League (ISL). The franchise have signed Borja Fernandez, Jofre Mateu González, José Miguel González Rey, Arnal Llibert Conde Carbó, Sylvain Monsoreau, Jakub Podaný and Apoula Edima Edel Bete.
Speaking at the post-draft press conference, Saharsh Parekh, whose father Utsav Parekh co-owns the franchise, explained that the management were leaving no stone unturned to ensure the players, who were predominantly Spanish, felt right at home.
“Language wouldn’t be a problem as most players are well versed with English and our management is also trying to learn Spanish as well.”
Parekh also talked about blending youth and experience to create a balanced team.
“There are a few formations that the coach wants and accordingly, we picked our players. It's all about creating a balance – young and experienced."
“Today we are going to Kolkata and will have a meeting to decide whether we need more players. 40 days is the ideal time to start the pre-season. We are the only team who have a ground with an artificial pitch. So, the players have to get used to it. We have a list of 22 players. Now we will go back and discuss,” revealed Parekh on the question of pre-season planning and ensuring the players adapt to this situation nicely.
“Hopefully foreign players will start the camp too depending on their visas,” concluded Parekh, when asked about the pre-season aining trfor foreign players.
