Two Dempo SC youth players have been handpicked to be part of a three-month long training stint with FC Midtjylland football academy.

The 18-year-olds Aniston Jenslie Fernandes from Betalbatim and Myon Manuel Fernandes from Mapusa will depart for Denmark in the first week of next month.

After buying 34% stake in FC Midtjylland Holdings, Dempo Sports Club have chalked out plans to send at least four junior players to Denmark in the next six months.

The academy head of the European club Claus Steinlein, who was also present on the occasion, expressed his eagerness to work with the Goan youngsters.

"I'm looking forward to working with these guys," he said. "We'll put the two Indian players against the Danish players and see their level."

"There are some things they may be behind us, and some things they may be in front of us, so we will use our know-how to train them."

Steinlein also spoke of his academy product who has made it in the Italian Serie A as well as the German Bundesliga, while confessing his desire to create a market for Indian players.

"Simon Kjaer [who now plays for Roma] was sold from FC Midtjylland to Palermo in the Serie A and further sold in Germany (VfL Wolsburg) for top money. Hopefully, we will sell Indian players in the future."

"In the year 2022, I hope to see India vs. Denmark in the World Cup, but Denmark will win," Steinlein added jokingly.

Meanwhile, Dempo SC President Shrinivas V Dempo intends to build a full-fledged academy in Goa.

"We have plans to have our own academy up and running in 18 months. A few plots of land have already been shortlisted which should be finalised within three months.

"The academy should be self-sustaining, profitable and the profit will go back in the academy," he added.

Mr. Dempo also remained ambitious for a healthy exchange of players between the two clubs.

"Recruits from the FC Midtjylland team and feeder clubs could also come to play for us. The option is also open for our players to play in FC Midtjylland's A-team, although right now it is more for the youngsters.

"If things work out, we will try to get FC Midtjylland to play in Goa against India XI, Goa XI and Dempo XI," he further added.
