Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated that he pays lots of attention to fashion and his image off the field.

The Portuguese attacker declared in September that opposing fans whistled him out of jealously, not only because of his football talent, but also because of his good looks and wealth.

"Style is very important," he told Spanish magazine DT. "Football comes first, but my image comes second. They go hand in hand.

"It is vital to do magnificent things on the field, but it is also important to have a good image off it, and that is what I try to do.

"Perhaps some people do not like my style, but I am who I am and I hope they can respect that.

"I will not change to please others and I hope my personality will be captured in my [Nike] clothing line.

"I like looking good. I can open the wardrobe in the morning and look for an hour before I decide what to wear."

Ronaldo then revealed he does not face the same problems as many other footballers when it comes to keeping his ideal weight.

"As a professional sportsman, my physical shape and health are crucial for me, but I do not pay much attention to it," he added.

"They are important in my work, but they are not the most important factor. I am lucky because I have good genes.

"For example, during the off-season I may relax for several days and I do not gain weight. Some players are not that lucky.

"I go to the gym a couple of times a week but I eat well and I have a healthy lifestyle. This is key: live well, eat correctly and sleep well at night.

"If you do not do this, it is possible that you will not reach the levels which are required to train and play."
