Jesus Navas And Santi Cazorla Reflect On Spain's Loss To Argentina
Jesus Navas and Santi Cazorla offer their reactions to Spain's 4-1 to Argentina in Buenos Aires.
By Paul Macdonald
Spanish duo Jesus Navas and Santi Cazorla have attempted to assess La Roja’s 4-1 thumping at the hands of Argentina in Buenos Aires, and admitted the home side’s early goals left them with a mountain to climb.
The Albicelestes netted three times within the first 30 minutes of the match thanks to strikes from Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez.
Despite a brief revival when Fernando Llorente pulled a goal back, a perfect evening for interim coach Sergio Batista was completed when substitute Sergio Aguero headed home an injury-time clincher.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Navas reacted: “They scored very early goals and from there it has been more difficult. The team has played well and the coach has confidence in us, and we made as many chances. Had we made a few more, we would have finally got another goal.
“The Estadio Monumental is spectacular, and it was a shame the match finished this way.”
Villarreal midfielder Santi Cazorla, who struck the crossbar in the second half, added: “We deserved to lose 4-1, but we have been strong in attack. We had chances, but we have not had the luck. Nobody likes to lose, but we knew one day it had to happen.”
