India will witness a one of a kind corporate soccer tournament from next week onwards. In a move to popularize football in India, Castrol India along with Saran Sports have come up with The Castrol Magnatec Corporate Soccer Programme 2010. This programme kicks off on 29th May and will continue for over six months.
The Castrol Magnatec Soccer Challenge will include various formats of the game with exciting innovations such as:
1) Corporate Soccer 5s
2) Corporate Penalty Shoot-out Contest
3) Media Cup
The most anticipated of these events will be the Castrol Magnatec Corporate Soccer 5s 2010. The brainchild of Saran Sports CEO Sanjiv Saran Mehra, this tournament has been in place since 2002. Over the years, it has seen participation from more than 178 corporate teams with another 80 expected to participate this year; a feat that has seen this tournament make its way into the Limca Book of Records.
Played in a similar fashion to futsal, this version of the game will feature a 5-on-5 tournament, with each team having five players on the field and four rolling substitutes. As in futsal, the offside rule has been waived and the size of the goal will be reduced. The format of the matches is similar to international competitions, having group stages followed by knockout rounds. The tournament has two categories – Men (Open and Super Cup) and Ladies.
When asked to describe what the tournament stood for, Giriraj Bagri, Vice President of Marketing, Castrol India Limited, had quite a few words to say.
“Castrol is a global sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2010 and 2014 and we are really excited about the forthcoming FIFA World Cup which starts on June 11th. Around 125 million viewers are expected to watch each FIFA World Cup match– implying that football is probably the most followed sport in the world. Through the sponsorship of the Castrol Magnatec Corporate Soccer Challenge, we want to offer an opportunity for executives to display their skills, enjoy a game of football with their colleagues and generally have a great time”.
This year, the Castrol Magnatec Corporate Soccer 5s will be held in Mumbai from 29-30th May at the Western Railway Stadium, Tulsi Pipe Road, Opposite Phoenix Mills.
