Peruvian midfielder Nolberto Solano agreed to return to his homeland after 12 years, to play for Universitario de Deportes.
The midfielder received a lucrative offer to join Buenos Aires outfit Velez Sarsfield, but he immediately rejected it because his wife and son wanted to return to Lima.
After talks with Universitario coach Juan Reynoso, a close friend of his, Solano finally decided to join the club from the Peruvian capital.
Reynoso told Solano that he was looking for a player of his qualities: "(I need) a playmaker or someone who can play on the right."
Solano responded: "If La U can pay me what I had asked the Argentines, I will move to Lima."
Universitario have assured the player that they will find the necessary funds to make sure his stay is a permanent one.
The former Newcastle United, Aston Villa and West Ham United playmaker, affirmed that he is excited about his return to Peruvian football, and that Universitario have the "largest fan base in the country."
"I want to arrive to pass on my experience and my professionalism," concluded Solano.
