John Terry Hopeful Chelsea Can Set New Home Record

Chelsea captain John Terry has admitted his side need to improve their home form if they are to claim any silverware this season.

The Blues’ incredible unbeaten run at Stamford Bridge was ended last month by Liverpool who claimed a 1-0 win in West London.

Since then Luiz Felipe Scolari’s men have been dumped out of the Carling Cup by Burnley at home and were yesterday held to a goalless draw by struggling Newcastle United.

In stark contrast, Chelsea are unbeaten on their travels this season in the Premier League and, according to football365.com, Terry wants his side’s away success to be repeated at Stamford Bridge.

The England captain said,“We've learned that successful teams go on big runs. This week we must start the next home run to build on our away success.”

Chelsea take on Arsenal next weekend at home and Terry admitted that the temptation to all but end the Gunners’ title chances was huge.

He explained: “At the end of the week we face Arsenal at home and if we win that, we can inflict real damage on their challenge for the title.”

Before then the Blues face a trip to Bordeaux in the Champions League, a side they trounced 4-0 at home in September and their skipper admitted he isn't panicking about their Stamford Bridge displays.

He confessed, “Just because we've lost our home record and gone out of the Carling Cup is no reason to get too concerned about home form. I think our best display of the season was when we beat Aston Villa at the Bridge. More of that and we'll set a new home record.”

Chelsea go into Wednesday night’s game hoping to bounce back from their 1-3 defeat to Roma in the last round of the competition, and the England international admitted his side need a result from the game.

“We owe ourselves an away win in Europe,” revealed the skipper.

He concluded, “Roma are a point behind us and could well win in Cluj. With Bordeaux a point behind us as well, and only one game left after Wednesday, victory would mean we qualify. Anything less simply will not be good enough.”
