Manchester United will hope to regain their seven-point advantage by marching to a win at St James' Park this evening when they take on Chris Hughton's Newcastle United.
Jonny Evans - who has enjoyed increased pitch-time in the first team in both the league, and especially the League Cup - is hoping for a starting role this evening. Evans believes it is a big ocasion and feels that as long as his side keep their confident swagger then they can outscore the Magpies.
"It’ll be a big game tonight," Evans told the club's official website.
"I didn’t play at Newcastle when I was on loan at Sunderland last season because I was injured, but I got a bit of experience of what St James’ Park is like. There’s a great atmosphere up there and it’ll be a tough match for us."
Powerful forward Wayne Rooney, despite his patchy goal-scoring form in the league in general, boasts a phenomenal record against the black and white striped side and has found the net eight times from ten occasions since joining United in 2004.
He is likely to feature this evening after recovering from the virus that kept him at bay for Sunday's Carling Cup final showdown.
Evans spoke of the confidence emanating from the Mancunian camp, strssing, "We’re always confident – at the moment when we score a goal, the defending has been that good that we’re expecting to keep a clean sheet."
