John O'Shea Seeking Manchester United 'Quadruple'

Manchester United utility player John O'Shea now wants the club to go on and win all three major domestic honours as well as the Champions League in order to claim an unprecedented 'quadruple' of trophies in one season.

The Irishman was part of the Red Devils' side that conquered brave Derby County 4-3 on aggregate after last night's second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final at Old Trafford. O'Shea, playing at left-back last night, scored his first goal of the season as United overcame a 1-0 first leg deficit to reach Wembley, and he is keen for United to win everything they can this season, to add to the already claimed Community Shield and the Club World Cup.

"That is obviously something you hope for at the start of the season and we're in one final now," O'Shea told BBC Manchester after last night's game.

"We're still in the FA Cup, going well in the Premier League, and the Champions League is soon to start up again."

Should United manage the unprecedented feat, then it would surely top for most fans even their marvellous 'treble' of 1998/99, when they captured a domestic double of the Premier League crown and the FA Cup, and wrested the Champions League trophy away from Bayern Munich in the last dramatic minutes of an epic final in Barcelona, when it looked as though the German side were certain winners.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has also only won the League Cup twice before with United, so capturing the oft-despised trophy this season perhaps represents a little 'unfinished business' for the Scotsman.

O'Shea is convinced that Ferguson's team can win everything, and is relishing the time when European competition begins again soon.

He concluded: "Fingers crossed when the Champions League starts up, we'll have a fully fit squad - that's where you can dream of those sorts of things."
