The Three Lions coach says the Arsenal midfielder's injury is unfortunate and he is hopeful he can return to action as quickly as possible ahead of the World Cup
The Arsenal midfielder picked up the injury during Wednesday’s friendly with Denmark at Wembley in a challenge with Liverpool defender Daniel Agger.
Wilshere received lengthy treatment on the pitch following the tackle but continued to play for almost an hour before being substituted.
The midfielder underwent initial scans after the game by the FA before further investigations by Arsenal’s medical team confirmed the injury.
Hodgson has revealed his disappointment at the news and says he is hoping to see the midfielder back in action as soon as possible.
"It's always sad when you have a player come from his club, you use him in international duty and then he gets an injury,” he told Sky Sports.
"It's very sad. I'm disappointed for Jack in particular and I'm disappointed for Arsenal.
"Unfortunately these things happen in a game of football. It was an honest challenge but he took a nasty kick and I can only hope he recovers as quickly as possible."
