Van Persie moves past Cruyff for Netherlands goals after strikes against Romania

Netherlands star Robin van Persie surpassed Johan Cruyff goalscoring tally for Oranje following his two strikes against Romania.

Louis van Gaal's side beat their eastern European opponents 4-0 in the Amsterdam ArenA, with the 29-year-old scoring the second and third goals.

The Manchester United attacker netted two more goals to take his international tally to 34 and surpass Johan Cruyff. Also set up the opener in an excellent outing.

His second of the match, from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, took him to 34 international goals, one above Cruyff.

The former Arsenal man is now only six strikes short of Patrick Kluivert's record 40-goal tally for Oranje.

Van Persie's first international cap also came in a World Cup qualifier against Romania, in a 2-0 victory in 2005.

He went on to score his first international goal four days later, in another qualifier against Finland. Five of his strikes for his country have come at major tournaments.
