After a nearly two-month absence to recover from surgery on his right knee, CSKA Moscow striker Keisuke Honda is expected to return to action this weekend when they host Rubin Kazan in the second stage of the Russian Premier League play-offs.

Honda, who was passed over for an invitation to join the Japanese national team in last week's international fixtures after he felt that he wasn't up to form, completed his recovery by participating in a practice match with CSKA's youth team on November 13.

As a starting member, he could be seen dribbing through as many as three defenders at a time and completing breakout runs with no discomfort.

Honda scored his team's third goal and contributed to a fourth in the 4-1 result.

Despite not having played for Japan since August, Honda is among the six final nominees for the AFC Player of the Year award, along with Samurai Blue team-mate Shinji Kagawa of Borussia Dortmund.

Questions remain as to whether or not Honda will be present at the ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, which is a prerequisite for receiving the award.
