Bayern Munich Star Franck Ribery To Accept France Ban After All
The winger will not appeal his sentence after all...
By Clark Whitney
France and Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery has decided to accept his suspension from the French national team after all. Earlier reports claimed that the tricky winger was set to appeal his ban from Les Bleus, but Ribery is aparently having second thoughts.
"Ribery will not accept this penalty," his lawyer, Jean-Didier Lange, told Le Parisien earlier on Wednesday. "If the [French Football] Association does not review the matter, we will be forced to appeal."
However, an official statement statement has now been released by AFP contradicting the earlier words of Ribery's lawyer.
"Franck Ribery has decided not to appeal his three-match ban, even though he's of the opinion that the suspension is unfair and doesn't have a foundation based on events that have happened," the statement reads.
Following hearings last week, the mercurial winger earned a three-match ban for his part in France's World Cup meltdown in June. Patrice Evra, who earned a five-match ban, earlier announced that he will appeal the French FA's decision.
In addition to the bans for Evra and Ribery, striker Nicolas Anelka earned an 18-game ban, and midfielder Jeremy Toulalan a one-match suspension.
