Barcelona defender Gabriel Milito will return to the international fold when Argentina take on world champions Spain next month according to Spanish publication Sport.

As a result of the cruciate ligament injury suffered in a UEFA Champions League tie against Manchester United in 2008, which ruled him out of football for over 18 months, Milito has not featured for la Albiceleste since a World Cup qualifier against Colombia back in November 2007.

Caretaker coach Sergio Batista was at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville last weekend to watch Milito play for Barca in the Spanish Super Cup first leg defeat to Sevilla and is understood to be ready to grant Milito the opportunity to prove his worth to the national side once again and add to his 32 international caps.

The 29-year-old defender is expected to be named in the squad for the Spain tie at El Monumental in Buenos Aires on September 7, when the squad is announced on August 24.
