Michael Essien And Sulley Muntari Face Ghana Sack

Ghana’s football authorities are under pressure to banish three players that excused themselves without permission from Wednesday’s international friendly against Angola.

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, Inter Milan’s Sulley Muntari and French-based Stade Rennais’ striker Asamoah Gyan are all in hot water after they skipped the team’s trip to Angola.

"No European footballer will behave the way they have done if they are called for a national assignment. They must be sacked now to save Ghana football,” the former chairman of the Ghana Football Association Dr Nyaho Tamakloe told Joy Sports.

"I will call on the FA to immediately dismiss the three boys from the national team. I believe strongly they will never put up such behaviour in their respective clubs in Europe.

"We have a lot of bright men coming through, giving them the exposure and they might do better than the three boys.

"We have played in one of these qualifiers without Muntari and we never lost a game. What sort of life is this," Tamakloe ranted.

An earlier press statement from the Ghana FA indicated that the trio would be punished pending the outcome of an investigation.

It was only captain Stephen Appiah and youngster Samuel Inkoom who had coach Milovan Rajevac’s consent to see to club commitments.
