thumbnail Hello,

The veteran attacker all-but-sealed his country's passage into the Confeds last four thanks to his strike against Nigeria - a feat made all the more impressive on his 100th cap

Diego Forlan has revealed his delight at scoring a "fantastic" goal to defeat Nigeria and virtually book Uruguay's place in the Confederations Cup semi-finals on Thursday.

The scores were tied until the Internacional forward - on his 100th appearance for the South American champions - struck the decisive blow early in the second half to leave his side on the brink of the last four.

And he admitted his performance in such an important game and the chemistry he displayed with "dream" Uruguay team-mates Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani filled him with great satisfaction.

"It's always nice to play with the national team, scoring goals as well. It was also my 100th game, and playing in this kind of competition is incredible for me," he told Goal.

"I think we deserve to be here because we won the Copa America, and altogether it was a great game.

"It was a fantastic goal! I had a similar goal a couple of months ago playing for Internacional that was not allowed because I was offside, but this came on a very big day so I'm very happy.

"To play with players like [Suarez and Cavani] is also a dream."

Uruguay face Tahiti on Sunday knowing that Nigeria can still progress to the knockout stages if they stun Spain and Forlan is remaining grounded on his country's chances in Brazil.

"We have to win [against Tahiti] and try to do our best. We have played two games and we just have to get on with our job and win, not worry about what happens [between Spain and Nigeria]," he concluded.
