Tolgay Ozbey set to be showcaused by Mohammedan Sporting

The Australian striker's poor form continued as he once again failed to put his name on the score-sheet...

Mohammedan Sporting officials are to issue a showcause notice to Tolgay Ozbey following the Australian striker's gesture after being subbed off early into the second half in a tie against Dempo SC which ended 0-0.

Tolgay, who hasn’t been in the best of forms, failed to make his mark in the match as he looked far from his usual dynamic self. He had the best chance in the game towards the end of the first half when he had to place the ball into the net from six yards out but instead his shot went over the bar.

Mohammedan coach Bola Moshood understandbly replaced Tolgay with Ashim Biswas in the 55th minute, to add some fresh impetus in the. However, it didn't go well with the Australian who chose to walk down the tunnel instead of sitting on the bench.

Though he did return to the bench after changing his jersey, the harm had already been done as Mohammedan officials had by then decided to showcause for him his antics.

"We will issue a showcause letter to Tolgay tomorrow morning," Mohammedan official Iqbal Ahmed said.

"See how Dempo performed with so many young players. And we are paying 60-to-70 lakhs to players and are playing with four foreigners. I have told the coach that we may change a few players. We have our I-League game on 11th and one Kolkata league game before that. We will discuss things after that. We don't have any sponsors and are relying on ourselves to pay all the money. The players also should perform as per the payment," a disappointed Iqbal remarked after the match.

According to another Mohammedan official, Tolgay gave vent to his anger after the match which hurt the sentiments of the Nigerian coach who was in tears. It is learnt that the player in question later apologized for his behaviour.

It is believed that the coach didn’t want to include Tolgay in the starting eleven however a meeting by the Mohammedan officials on the eve of the tie asked the coach to keep him in his plans.

Josimar Martins, who was surprisingly left out of the first team against Mohun Bagan in the midweek, was appeased by been handed the skipper’s armband.
