Chelsea's Drogba Has 'Unfinished Business' With Marseille
The Ivorian striker claims that his work is not yet done in Provence...
Unsettled Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has today revealed that he has "unfinished business" with former club Olympique Marseille, and would love to play for them again.
The French club had made an offer to take the Ivory Coast international on loan earlier this month, but decided that the player's wages were simply to high for them to match. Drogba had left the club in 2004 after a single season with l'OM, when a £24 million fee took him from the South of France to West London.
He spent just a year with the French club before leaving, and admitted today that he feels there is still work for him to do at Marseille.
"It's unfinished business with Marseille. It's hard to know if one day we will have the chance to finish this adventure, maybe in a better way," he told The London Evening Standard today.
"It hurts me to see people cry like that, asking me to come back. It's tough for me to find the right words to explain the relationship that exists between Marseille fans and me."
The rumours of discontent and dissatisfaction that surround the player at Stamford Bridge will not readily diffuse, and intensified after the recent 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford, when it was rumoured that a confrontation between him and manager Luiz Felipe Scolari had ended with the player being blamed for the defeat.
Should he move in the summer, as now seems increasingly likely, it would seem that Marseille is his favoured option.
"I still love this club and it will never change, whatever happens," he added, speaking about Marseille. "I still feel at home there. It's not necessarily the right moment for me to speak about a possible return to L'OM. I have a lot of respect for Chelsea and as long as I'm under contract with them, I can't express myself.
"If something is made to happen, I don't know on which conditions, L'OM are going to have to contact Chelsea."
