The 60-year-old coach walked away from the Oranje after coming in for a lot of criticism in the wake of the country's dismal and turbulent Euro 2012 campaign

Kevin Strootman has expressed his disappointment at the news that Bert van Marwijk has stepped down as Netherlands boss.

The Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) announced on Wednesday that the 60-year-old coach had resigned in the wake of the country's disastrous showing at Euro 2012, with the Oranje losing all three of their group games.

It has been claimed that Van Marwijk lost control of the dressing room during the tournament but Strootman feels indebted to the former Feyenoord boss for handing him his first international cap last year, against Austria.

"It's too bad that the coach has quit," the PSV midfielder wrote on Twitter. "But I'm glad that under Van Marwijk I got the chance to make my debut for my country."

Current Feyenoord trainer Ronald Koeman has already ruled himself out of the running to succeed Van Marwijk in the Dutch hot seat.
