Welbeck hails England's squad depth and passion

The Manchester United striker, who scored the winning goal against Erik Hamren's men, says that team spirit has brought the Three Lions to the brink of the quarter-finals

Danny Welbeck has praised the depth of England‘s squad and attacking intent following their 3-2 win over Sweden in Kiev.

The 21-year-old striker scored the winner with a sublime flicked finish, but lamented the fact that England conceded twice after starting the second half slowly.

He also singled out substitute Theo Walcott for praise, whose late cameo assisted his winner as well as yielded a goal for the Arsenal forward.

"We all know the ability Theo has for the team and spread all across the squad, so whoever comes on we know can make a difference," he told the BBC.

"I'm happy with the finish and to get three points for the team, but I'm quite disappointed to let two goals in at the start of the second half."

Welbeck also heaped praise on the team spirit of the England camp, insisting that the team never stopped believing, even after conceding two in quick succession.

"It was a game of two halves, but we stuck together and the team spirit shone,” he continued.

"It's going to be better for us if we get the three points in every single game, and that is what we try to do.

"When we went behind we still had the belief there, we stuck together and as I said before our team spirit shone through."

With a win against the Swedes, England only need a point against Ukraine to guarantee a quarter-final place - but Welbeck hopes that England won't abandon their new-found attacking style with a cautious approach on Tuesday.

He added: "We’ll get back to Poland. Sit down, have a recovery and then our attention turns to Ukraine. We’ll sit down, get the analysis sorted and go from there, trying to get the three points."
