Olympique Lyonnais president Jean-Michel Aulas has expressed his belief that the media had a part to play in Yoann Gourcuff's omission from France's final 23-man squad for Euro 2012.

The Lyon supremo, who single-handedly took the decision to purchase the 25-year-old in the final days of the 2010 summer transfer window, admitted that Gourcuff needs to toughen up mentally but was not at all surprised that Laurent Blanc decided not to retain the playmaker he once coached at Bordeaux in his plans for the European Championship.

"At least Yoann was in the provisional list," Jean-Michel Aulas told RMC.

"I think the media played a part in his omission. They were all against Yoann, which certainly influenced Blanc's final decision."

"Yoann is a gifted player but he is hardly resilient mentally, something we will work on in the coming months so as to give him this additional attribute."

France, unbeaten in their last 20 games, will face Estonia on June 5 in their final warm-up friendly before the finals. Les Bleus begin their Euro 2012 charge against England on June 11.
