Sigurdsson 'confident' of Europa League progression over Lyon
The Tottenham midfielder believes his team-mates have enough quality to overcome the Ligue 1 giants ahead of Thursday's last-32 second-leg clash at the Stade de Gerl
Tottenham midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is "confident" his team are capable of scoring away from home and securing progression to the Europa League last-16 stage over Lyon.
Two long-range free kicks from Gareth Bale handed the Premier League outfit a 2-1 win at White Hart Lane last Thursday, with the French side grabbed a vital away goal thanks to Samuel Umtiti's stunning half-volley from the corner of the penalty area.
However, Sigurdsson has backed Tottenham to come over firing and put the tie to bed as soon as possible.
"We always look capable of scoring, especially away from home and we’ve done that in almost every game,” Sigurdsson told the club's official website.
"We’re confident we can go out there and get a goal or two, and if we do, it will be a huge positive for us.
"If we get an early goal, things will be looking good."
Despite his optimism, however, the summer signing is well aware of the quality in the Lyon ranks and admits it will be no easy feat to eliminate the Ligue 1 side on their turf.
"They showed at White Hart Lane that they are a good team with talented, individual players who can cause some damage," he added.
"I thought they started slowly in the first leg but they grew into the game and then scored an unbelievable goal.
"[Umtiti] will probably never score another goal like that in his career! That shows we have to be aware of their quality and ready for them."
