Quique Flores: A final between my old Atletico Madrid team and the current one would be very even

The Spanish coach says that the two sides are different but reckons that a match between them would be a close affair
Al Ahli coach Quique Flores thinks that the Atletico Madrid team he led and the one Diego Simeone is currently in charge of are at the same level.

The 47-year-old coached Atletico between 2009 and 2011, guiding the club to Europa League glory in his first year in charge with a 2-1 victory against Fulham in the final.

As the Rojiblancos prepare for another continental final, this time against Athletic Bilbao, Flores thinks that the club can emerge victorious just like they did two years ago.

"This team is different from the one I led," he told Marca. "They do not play alike. My team liked to run, while this one is more about the collective.

"A final between this Atletico team and my own would be very even."

Questioned about Wednesday's contest, Flores said that the teams are evenly matched and noted that defence will play a key role in the match.

"I do not think that there is a clear favourite," he explained. "These teams have different styles of play.

"You can win these matches by making only a few mistakes and Atletico are better at this. They limit the options of the opposing side."
