Porto captain Helton is delighted to have defeated Braga 1-0 in Dublin to win the Europa League and dedicates the triumph to his mother.
The victory in the final came on his 33rd birthday and Helton was jubilant to have won yet another competition.
“Besides being a very heavy [trophy], it is a wonderful gift,” said Helton, according to A Bola. “We all should be congratulated. I dedicate this to my mother.”
Reflecting on their win against Braga on Wednesday evening and looking ahead to next season’s march in the Champions League, the Brazilian custodian stated: “We knew that it will not be easy and it was confirmed. But with humility, we have won the Europa League.
“Next year we will continue to work with the same intensity and tenacity. The Champions League? The aim is always to go as far as possible.”
Porto have already won the Portuguese league and will feature in Europe’s premier club competition in 2011-12.
