India to face Cameroon in Nehru Cup final on 2nd September

Cameroon sealed their and India's place in the final on 2nd September with a comfortable win against Maldives, who were the only other side still in contention for a top 2 spot...

The Local Lions defeated a ten men Maldives side 3-1 and by doing so confirmed their and India’s place in the final, thereby rendering the clash between the Blue Tigers and Cameroon as a dead rubber.

As explained in’s article yesterday about the various permutations and combinations that would decide the line-up of the final, only three teams, India, Cameroon and Maldives were left in the running for a place in the grand showdown on 2nd September.

For Istvan Urbanyi’s side to keep their title hopes alive, they needed to avoid a defeat against the Local Lions, with a win being good enough to seal their place in the final while a draw leaving them at the mercy of the result between India and Cameroon.

However with Maldives losing to Cameroon today, a result which leaves both India and Cameroon on 7 points with a game to go for both sides, the Red Snappers can no longer over-take either side on the table,as they have 6 point, having played all their four league games.

Syria and Nepal, both of whom have a single point to show for their efforts so far and were already knocked out of contention, faceoff in a clash on Thursday to decide who finishes bottom of the table.
