thumbnail Hello,

As the football tournament in the Olympics soon comes to a finish, Goal.com assesses who can be on top of the goal scoring chart...

The Olympics has always been known for the intense competition it fosters and this year has not been any different from its previous installments. The current guidelines in the Olympics give an opportunity to players to witness international football from a very nascent stage.

The tournament comes for its final showdown at Wembley Stadium with Brazil and Mexico battling for the Gold medal; after South Korea beat Japan 2-0 to win the bronze. The Olympic Gold has always eluded the Brazilians while the Mexicans are guaranteed a medal for the first time.

The tournament has witnessed goals galore as the ball has been netted 73 times from 31 games. And Goal.com brings to you the list of players who can top the goal scoring chart even though there are no prizes for it. We have listed just two players, two Brazilians, who are still in contention to score more to add to their tally and have excluded those who have already made an exit from the competition such as Moussa Konate of Senegal who has five goals to his name.

THE FAVOURITE

Name: Leandro DAMIAO

Position: Striker

Team: Brazil

Games played: 4

Minutes played: 323

Goals scored: 6

Assists: 1

Leandro Damiao
has been lethal for The Seleccao. Having scored in every game that he has featured in so far, Damiao is the leading goal scorer of the tournament and remains an absolute favourite to defend his position on the final day. Mexico will be stubborn opponents to beat but it should not be forgotten that Damiao netted two goals against the disciplined South Koreans in the semi-finals.

THE CONTENDER

Name: NEYMAR

Position: Striker

Team: Brazil

Games played: 5

Minutes played: 436

Goals scored: 3

Assists: 2

Neymar
has been an important player in Brazil's journey so far. He has not only scored but also assisted a couple of goals for his team-mates. Even though he is three goals shy of equaling his tally with that of Damiao's, he can still beat the already eliminated Senegalese Moussa Konate who sits on 5 goals with no assists. However, the finals is not going to allow him a free scoring run as he will be closed down quickly and man-marked by the Mexicans.
