thumbnail Hello,

The former Chelsea boss has overtaken Roberto Martinez as the favourite for the Anfield vacancy as the odds for former manager Rafael Benitez have drifted to 8/1

Speculation and rumour are rife in the football world and there is no hotter topic than who will succeed Kenny Dalglish as Liverpool manager after the 61-year-old Scot stepped down following meetings with the club's American owners.

Andre Villas-Boas is now a best priced 2/1 (3.0) favourite with Sportingbet, having been backed in from an initial quote of 14/1 (15.0). Roberto Martinez is still in the running but support for him has waned and his price has drifted to an industry best 9/2 (5.5) with Sportingbet.

It is thought Dalglish flew to Boston and met with Fenway Sports Group to evaluate the clubs performance this season.

Despite winning the Carling Cup win and an FA Cup final appearance, poor league form culminated in an eight-placed finish and deemed a step too far for Dalglish, who was in his second spell in charge at Anfield.

The early money came for Benitez and Martinez but Villas-Boas is by far the biggest mover in the market since the job became available. Some bookmakers suspended betting on the Portuguese overnight.

Money has also been seen for Fabio Capello, now into 12/1 (13.0) and also Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers (6/1) after his side won many plaudits for their free-flowing, attacking style of football in their debut Premier League season.

The majority of the bets though, have been the former Porto boss who followed in mentor Jose Mourinho's step and led the Portuguese side to European glory as well as a domestic treble in 2011.

An impressive haul of silverware which paved the way for his move to the Premier League, a role which he left earlier this year, following a string of poor performances, to be replaced by Roberto Di Matteo, who has since led the Blues to the Champions League final.

It remains to be seen if Andre-Villas Boas will be offered the chance to rebuild his managerial reputation after leaving Chelsea less than a season after he was appointed at Stamford Bridge but he will face similar levels of pressure, if not higher, should he take on the expectation that comes with managing Liverpool.
