Manchester City will not risk injury doubt James Milner as they fight to stay in the Champions League at home to Ajax on Tuesday evening, Goal.com understands.

The midfielder returned to the City squad to face West Ham on Saturday after having served a one-match ban for the champions but was forced out of the warm-up shortly before kick-off with concerns over a tight hamstring.

Milner is set for scans on Monday afternoon to discover the extent of the tweak, and sources close to the club understand that he will not be risked by City's medical team as they prepare for their make-or-break clash with the Dutch champions on Tuesday evening.

Mancini's side are currently bottom of Group D with one point and must beat Ajax to have a chance of qualification ahead of their final two fixtures against Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

Milner's absence leaves City short at right-back yet again, with Kolo Toure, who started against West Ham, not registered as part of Mancini's Champions League squad and Micah Richards out with a knee injury. Pablo Zabaleta is likely to be drafted in after making the bench at Upton Park, despite not having played in a month.

Elsewhere, David Silva could be included in the City squad at the Etihad Stadium but will not start as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury ahead of the champions' clash with with Tottenham on Sunday.
