Maurice Edu frustrated with crisis at Rangers
The uncertain future at the Scottish club continues to affect the careers of American internationals Maurice Edu, Alejandro Bedoya and Carlos Bocanegra
EXCLUSIVEBy Alex Labidou
Following Rangers's liquidation, the future of the newly-formed club continues to look bleaker by the day as it struggles to successfully apply for admission into a lower level of Scottish football.
The situation also affects the United States national team as three of its players are attached to the team.
Where Maurice Edu, Carlos Bocanegra and Alejandro Bedoya will play next season remains unresolved as the American trio could be released from their contracts depending on certain decisions over the next few weeks. It has been reported all three players dealt with pay-cuts as high as 60 percent as the club tried to sort its finances. Edu says that the circumstances have been very difficult for everyone involved with the team.
"It's a situation that no one saw coming and no one wants to be in," Edu told Goal.com. "It's a tough one for the club, for the players and everyone involved. Right now, it's a waiting game. We'll see what the future holds for all of us. "
Rangers opened up training camp on Thursday with only 13 players present. Edu, Bocanegra and Bedoya were reported to not be with the club. Edu is one of the team's longest-serving players having joined the Glasgow club in 2008.
As part of a tax dispute, Rangers were reformed as The Rangers Football Club Ltd. As the details get more and more complicated, Edu admitted that there isn't much the players can do.
"It's out of control. In an ideal world, things wouldn't be this way," Edu stated. "But these are things that we have no control over and we can't dictate what's going on or the situation that we're in. We just have to deal with it and do whatever is best."
Considering the disarray at Rangers, many players are being linked with moves away from the team, including Edu and Bocanegra. The latter is expected to return to Major League Soccer if he can get out of his contract while Edu has been linked with a number of teams in Turkey, although the player clarified that the rumors of a move to the Turkish Super Lig are false, but revealed that there are teams interested in him.
"Rumors [of going to Turkey], I don't know what I'm doing to be honest. If someone knows what that is before I do, that's crazy," Edu said grinning.
"Yes [there are teams interested], but I'm leaving that all to my agent," Edu added. "That's what he's here to do."
