The 22-year-old Chelsea midfielder has missed his side's previous three matches due to a hip injury and is keen not to aggravate his condition ahead of the Copa
The 22-year-old has been left out of the Chelsea starting line-up by coach Jose Mourinho for their last three games, leading to speculation about his future at the London club.
But the former Internacional midfielder, who missed both legs of the Champions League semi-final with Atletico Madrid, insisted his exclusion was merely precautionary ahead of Brazil’s quest for their sixth world title thus summer.
“I'm not playing because I felt a pain due to an injury to my hip,” he told Globo. “So in the last game against Liverpool I was not called on.”
“I warmed up [against Atletico], but Mourinho knew that I could hardly play.
“Maybe I will not play the next game because I could suffer a more serious injury to my hip and he knows it.”
“We're aiming me to try and play me in the final clash of the Premier League, but I have to take care for the World Cup.”
“We still have two very important games in the Premier League because Chelsea can still be champions, but it is important I rest because the World Cup is here.”
Brazil begin their World Cup campaign on June 12 against Croatia in Sao Paulo.
