Australia will be without the services of Harry Kewell for their World Cup qualifier against Thailand in Bangkok on Tuesday because of an injury.

The 33-year-old aggravated a muscle strain during the Socceroos’ 1-0 defeat to Oman in Muscat on Friday in their 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Kewell sustained the injury in the second half and was replaced in the 54th minute by Robbie Kruse.

The extent of the ailment is not clear at the moment but it has been confirmed that coach Holger Osieck has allowed the Melbourne Victory player to return home.

Australia are currently at the top of Group D in the Asian qualifying zone with nine points from four matches and need just a point from their last two matches to secure a place in the next round of the qualification campaign.
