thumbnail Hello,

The 25-year-old may be among the substitutes for the club's game against Stuttgarters Kickers on Saturday

Marco Reus could return to action in Borussia Dortmund’s German Cup match against Stuttgarter Kickers, coach Jurgen Klopp has revealed.

Reus missed Germany’s World Cup-winning campaign in Brazil this summer after suffering ankle ligament damage in his nation’s final pre-tournament friendly against Armenia 11 weeks ago, and has been recovering ever since.

It was initially hoped that the 25-year-old would return to fitness for Dortmund's pre-season training, but further tests confirmed that the Germany international would be out of action for three months.

Klopp, however, has now delivered good news to Dortmund fans by revealing that he is considering naming Reus as a substitute for the club’s DFB-Pokal away clash against Stuttgarter Kickers on Saturday afternoon.

“Marco is an option on the bench,” Klopp said.

“But, it could also make sense to leave him in Dortmund to continue training.”

Dortmund arrive in the game against Stuttgarter Kickers following a 2-0 win over their rivals Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup earlier this week.

Klopp decided to rest six players, including Roman Weidenfeller, Mats Hummels and Nuri Sahin, in the clash against Pep Guardiola’s men on Wednesday.

But Klopp has admitted that he will recall one or two players who missed the victory over Bayern for Dortmund's game against Stuttgarters to ensure that his side keep up the momentum going into the new Bundesliga season.

“It’s likely that we are going to make one or two changes,” Klopp said.

“Roman [Weidenfeller] could be an option but we are not going to take it.

“Mitch Langerak is a goalkeeper that we have real faith in, and we also want to give Roman Weidenfeller a chance to have a normal pre-season.

“As long as we don’t need to, we are not going to push things early.”

Dortmund kick off their Bundesliga campaign against Bayer Leverkusen on 23 August, but, Klopp admitted he is unlikely to make any major changes to his side ahead of the opening day match at home.

“Let’s see what we do. After the Leverkusen match we have a friendly in Mannheim, and that one seems to come just at the right time for many of the players," he said.
