The former Real Madrid coach believes the German international is as good as the Catalan duo and ensured supporters he will look to add extra strength to his squadBayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes believes that Bastian Schweinsteiger is on the same level as Barcelona's Xavi and Andres Iniesta
The German international has made an impressive start to the new campaign and his performance in Bayern's 7-0 win over Freiburg at the weekend has earned plaudits from the German media.
Heynckes' men head to Spain for a tricky Champions League test against Villarreal on Wednesday and the 66-year-old tactician is adamant that Schweinsteiger will need to be at his best for the match.
"For these games, we need the Schweinsteiger from the 2010 season. If he is in form, he plays in a league with Xavi, Iniesta and [Sergio] Busquets," Heynckes told Kicker.
Despite the Bavarian outfit's decent start to the season, the experienced coach refuses to rest on his laurels, insisting he aims to improve the strength of his squad.
"Bayern have to selectively improve even further in the coming years, each year we should get two absolutely top players," he added.
Talk then turned to Bayern's upcoming Champions League campaign, a competition Heynckes won with Real Madrid in 1998, which coincidentally is the last time he coached in the competition.
"Should I be here for several years, we will certainly put together a team that can make a splash in Europe. Why should we not win [the Champions League]? Although currently some teams are better than us," he said.
Heynckes was then quizzed on his favourites for Europe's most elite club competition, with the German stating: "Barca, Madrid, Manchester United, maybe Chelsea, but we can keep up."
