Only the best can play for Bayern Munich, warns Sammer
The retired Germany international has stressed the importance of bringing silverware back to Bavaria this season, and highlighted the team's desire to be the best in Europe
Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has warned the club's players not to rest on their laurels ahead of a crucial opening few months in 2013.Die Roten currently sit top of the Bundesliga and breezed through their Champions League group, but Sammer has insisted that the Bavarians must pick up silverware both domestically and on the continent - and says the exit door is there for anyone who does not match their ambitions.
He told Kicker: "The claim is [that] we want to be the best in Germany and in Europe. Anyone who does not meet these requirements is no player for Bayern Munich.
"We must ensure that titles come to us."
After a trophyless campaign last season, Bayern are well-placed to challenge for honours on all fronts heading into 2013.
They currently sit nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga as Germany enjoys a winter break from football.
They also have a DFB-Pokal quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund and a Champions League last 16 clash with Arsenal to prepare for early next year.
