Gotze: I would vote Messi for the Ballon d'Or

The Germany forward feels the Barcelona hitman deserves to win the individual award, and is eagerly anticipating the Champions League game versus Real Madrid

Borussia Dortmund attacker Mario Gotze feels that Lionel Messi deserves to win the Fifa Ballon d'Or following his fine performances throughout 2012.

The Argentina international won the inaugural two editions of the prestigious individual award, but faces stiff competition from Cristiano Ronaldo among others this time around.

Nevertheless, Gotze insists that the Barcelona star deserves to make it three in a row, claiming he would vote for the 25-year-old if he were given the chance.

"I think Messi will win the Ballon d'Or again. I would vote for him," Gotze was quoted as saying by AS.

The Germany international then looked ahead to his side's Champions League Group D match away against Real Madrid.

"Playing at the Santiago Bernabeu will be something special, of course. I'm looking forward to enjoying it.

"Madrid are a fine team, and every player is incredible. I just hope the game ends in the Bernabeu as it did back in Dortmund.

"I'm only looking to beat them and qualify from the group."

Tuesday's encounter is scheduled to kick off at 20:45CET.
