English clubs are interested in Holtby, says Schalke team manager
The Knappen official has revealed details about the interest of several Premier League sides hoping to clinch the signing of the talented playmaker
Schalke team manager Horst Heldt has spoken about a possible move for midfielder Lewis Holtby. The 22-year-old with English family has expressed his intent to one day play for a Premier League club on numerous occasions in the past, sympathising with his father's favourite team Everton.
"I have always said that one day, I want to play in England. I would not exclude Liverpool, even if it would mean a hit against my father who is a die-hard Everton fan," Holtby was quoted as saying by Bild.
Heldt claimed "there are concrete offers", and has hinted about what the player might do in the future.
"Lewis has English roots, I understand that he is chasing this dream."
Die Konigsblauen's Champions League opponents Arsenal are said to be leading the race for the Germany U21 captain's signature according to some reports, along with struggling Liverpool.
The 42-year-old Schalke man is also aware that the player's contract is running out at the end of the season.
"We are in final talks. I think we can offer a lot to him. But he is for free [because of his contract running out], and the decision is up to Lewis in the end," said Heldt.
