Draxler injury blow for Schalke
The promising youngster faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after fracturing his arm, while Benedikt Howedes was not amused with the fans' negative attitude against Montpellier
Huub Stevens has received some disturbing news from the treatment table in the aftermath of Schalke's 2-2 Champions League draw against Montpellier on Wednesday as Julian Draxler has picked up an injury in the game and will be out of action for a number of weeks. The 19-year-old midfielder equalised for the hosts at the Veltins Arena before winning the penalty, which Klaas-Jan Huntelaar tucked away to make it 2-1.
However, Draxler was taken off on a stretcher with an arm injury after the incident leading to the spot-kick, and was taken to hospital immediately after the match to undergo further examination.
It was then confirmed that he had fractured his arm, and has already successfully gone under the knife. It is not yet exactly known how long the Germany international will be sidelined, but he will be unavailable for several weeks.
Meanwhile, Benedikt Howedes has voiced his dismay with the Schalke fans' critical attitude in the closing stages of the game.
The Schalke faithful whistled goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall when he took his time to resume play while the Bundesiga side were 2-1 up, and the club captain feels the glovesman had every right to take things slowly.
"It's not fair toward the goalkeeper that his own fans whistle him when he decides to take his time in order to protect the lead. And it's unfair toward the team as well."
Schalke will be looking to return to winning ways on Saturday when they host Wolfsburg.
