Sammer: Bayern cannot afford to get complacent
The former Germany international slammed his side's display against Werder Bremen, but has stressed he's only trying to keep the team focused
Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has stressed that the Bundesliga table-toppers will have to remain focused if they are to be successful this term. The Bavarians claimed a 2-0 away victory against Werder Bremen at the weekend, only for the 45-year-old who warn them that their performance was not of title-winning quality.
And has now revealed that he discussed his concerns with head coach Jupp Heynckes before making them public as he feels it's all in the best interest of the team.
"I had talked it through with the coach. The most important thing right now is that we are not getting carried away. Everybody's praising us at the moment, so we have to make sure we keep our feet on the ground," Sammer told Bild.
"We have to be careful that we do not become complacent. We should not think that everything will all turn out fine all the time. There will come a moment when performing at 95 per cent is no longer enough. Things got close against Bremen."
Bayern will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the season away against BATE Borisov on Tuesday.
